documentation
Barnes Dances incorporates a stereo prerecorded audio track that should blend seamlessly with the live ensemble.
Technical Requirements
- MAC or PC with multi-channel digital audio workstation
- Audio interface with 3+ channels (2 for audio track, 1 for click); ideally 5 channels to separate the vox track
- Software options: Provided Max patch (free Max software available at cycling74.com), provided Logic session, or any standard DAW (ProTools, Digital Performer, Ableton, etc.)
- Stereo speakers
- Earpieces for ensemble to follow click track
Audio Tracks
The prerecorded material is separated into two components:
- Crosswalks and instrumental tracks
- Voice (“vox”) tracks – these must be mixed for maximum clarity and intelligibility; the mixing engineer has independent control of these tracks to adjust levels as needed
Amplification (Optional, preferred)
- Use high-quality condenser microphones with clean reverb (2–4 seconds) for ensemble blend, unless performing in a naturally resonant space
- May be performed without amplification
