Documentation

A Natural History of Vacant Lots uses a stereo prerecorded track and click that blend with the live performance. The electronics were updated in March 2025, following the commercial recording.

Technical requirements

  • MAC or PC with multi-channel DAW
  • Audio interface with 3+ channels (2 audio, 1 click)
  • Provided Logic session or any standard DAW
  • Stereo speakers
  • Earpieces for ensemble click

Amplification (optional)

  • High-quality condenser mics with clean reverb (2–4 sec) for blend
  • May be performed dry

Solo vs. quartet versions

In the solo version, the prerecorded tracks carry both the electronics and the percussion parts (drums, glockenspiel and wine glass, vibes). In the quartet version, those parts are played live, so the track holds electronics only. The electronics themselves are identical across both.
