Dear Friends,

A few things I’m happy to share — a brand-new piece, a premiere abroad, and some upcoming concerts closer to home.

On the heels of Don’t Look Down‘s Grammy win, I’m deep in work on my latest collaboration with Sandbox Percussion — a new concert-length piece commissioned by Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts and Music Academy of the West. The Only Way Is Through is written for percussion quartet and choir, bringing together Sandbox and the Young People’s Chorus of New York City at Caramoor, and the Sing! children’s choir and percussion fellows of Music Academy of the West.

The world premiere takes place July 19 at Caramoor in Katonah, NY — More Info — followed by the West Coast premiere at Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara on July 31 and August 1. More Info. Excitingly, all of these shows are free.

Boston Premiere: Beaufort Scales at the ICA

Lorelei Ensemble brings the Grammy-nominated Beaufort Scales to Boston for two performances at the Institute of Contemporary ArtMarch 20 and 21. The piece is a 36-minute oratorio for eight voices and live electronics, drawing on the Beaufort Wind Force Scale alongside texts from Melville, Fitzgerald, and Anne Carson. At its heart, it’s about what increasingly volatile weather is doing to our lives. I’ll be there Friday night! More Info

World Premiere: Swift Interval in Brussels

On March 21, harpist Stef Van Vynckt gives the world premiere of Swift Interval, a new work for harp and prerecorded harps, in Brussels, Belgium. The piece is dedicated to Stef, and I’m looking forward to hearing it come to life. More Info
