Beaufort Scales GRAMMY nomination; Grove Tickets on Sale!
Dear Friends,
I’m very excited to share that, along with my colleagues from Lorelei Ensemble and conductor Beth Willer, I’ve been nominated for the 2025 Grammy Award for Best Chamber Music/Small Ensemble Performance. This is my third album to be nominated for a Grammy and my first as producer as well as composer.
Beaufort Scales is a 35-minute composition for eight high voices and live electronics. The piece weaves together text from the Beaufort wind force scale with words by Herman Melville, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and Anne Carson. Through this combination of technical measurement and literary language, the work explores our world’s increasingly extreme weather patterns, moving between moments of delicacy and force—mirroring the natural phenomena that inspired it.
The entire project was a labor of love by Lorelei, Beth, me, as well as producer Mike Tierney and executive producer Jim Fox and his label Cold Blue Music. I hope you’re able to check out the entire album, you can stream to it here or buy a CD or download here.
In other exciting news, we’re fast closing in on the NYC premiere of IN A GROVE at the Prototype Festival. Tickets are officially on sale and you can view a trailer for the project on Instagram:
We have an incredible cast (in order of appearance):
I’m thrilled to have each of these singers involved, along with music director Raquel Acevedo Klein and Metropolis Ensemble. We’ll have five performances between January 16–19, 2025. I hope I can see you there!
There are more exciting things in the year ahead. You can read about them on my website—and there’s more yet-to-be-announced fun ahead in 2025. I can’t wait to share that.
Thank you, as always, for reading!
Chris
